Leadership Circle Message on Masks
Dear WSOC Community,
Several weeks ago, we wrote to you to let you know that the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) was revising their health & safety guidelines for schools – public and private – and were providing a Covid-19 and a Reopening Instruction Framework and Public Health Guidance for K-12 Schools. This 50-page document included one significant change to our current Health & Safety Practices.
The change expands facial covering requirements to include children in Kindergarten through 2nd grade. The CDPH guidelines formerly “strongly encouraged” facial coverings for this age group. With the update, students in Kindergarten through Grade 2, without a medical exemption, are now required to wear a facial covering on campus following the same guidelines, in place since September, for our older students, faculty and staff. We have been given this direction by both the CDPH and the Orange County Health Care Agency (OCHCA), the same state-wide and local agencies whose guidelines we have continued to follow since our return in September.
We remain committed to flexibility and clear communication. We have made a commitment to you and to your children that we will do whatever it takes to keep our doors open and our teachers with your children. As an independent school we must follow the requirements and guidance provided by the State in order to ensure that our on-campus education can continue.
To implement this new requirement we will follow these steps:
- Facial Covering worn by all students K-12, on or before March 15.
- Any exemptions submitted to the Registrar, Maureen McDermott no later than March 22.
