Model United Nations (MUN)
Model United Nations, or MUN as it's often called, is an internationally recognized student organization that fosters understanding of international affairs, conflict resolution and diplomacy. Instead of a classroom setting where students are lectured about global issues, members of MUN learn about international affairs experientially through a simulation of negotiations that take place in the United Nations.
Students attend conferences, where they play the role of a foreign diplomat, who must represent their assigned country and must debate and negotiate in the UN framework. As diplomats, students are expected to familiarize themselves with contemporary international issues, research their country's policy on relevant topics, and finally negotiate with other delegates through formal speaking as well as interpersonal cooperation.
