Foundation Studies

in association with Kula Makua Adult Waldorf Education, Honolulu, HI — September 2010 to June 2012

Foundation Studies
Waldorf School of Orange County's third program of Foundation Studies is a fully certified two-year program which will enable participants to continue at an Anthroposophical Teacher Training program, if desired. Anthroposophy is the core study and will be supported by intense artistic work. There will be an emphasis on Waldorf Education. Some further courses may include art history, Parzival, Goethe's Faust, projective geometry, the development of consciousness through literature and others.

The program will be directed by Chris Bennett, who recently joined the faculty of WSOC and is the former Director of Kula Makua Adult Waldorf Education in Honolulu. Faculty members from WSOC will be supporting this program in addition to guest teachers from the wider Anthroposophical community.

The first year program will include:

Child Development and the Basics of Waldorf Education. This class will be centered around the study of two of Rudolf Steiner's basic books on Waldorf Education: The Education of the Child and The Kingdom of Childhood, with a detailed look at child development and wide-ranging discussions of the various themes and topics arising.

Theosophy (by Rudolf Steiner), the study of the human being in relation to the cosmos from an Anthroposophical perspective.

Artistic Activities will include a combination of several of the following activities: singing, eurythmy, black and white drawing, painting, form drawing, handwork, woodworking and modeling.

A Biography Workshop, with Lee Sturgeon Day: a look at the cycles and rhythms of one's life from a spiritual point of view.

An Early Childhood Workshop: an introduction into the education of children in the early years with Holly Richards. This workshop will include storytelling, play, festivals and circle work, activities and the seasons table.
